Aandavan Kattalai, the third directorial venture of M. Manikandan of Kaaka Muttai and Kuttrame Thandanai fame has touched the commercial genre with this film featuring Vijay Sethupathi, Ritika Singh, Yogi Babu, Nasser, Pooja Devariya, Ramesh Tilak among others.
Hero Vijay Sethupathi who hails from a remote village in Madurai, decides to go to London to earn big and clear his family's debts. His friend Yogi Babu too tags along and they both come to Chennai to arrange their passports. While taking the passport, the agent suggests that married persons would get a UK visa easily. Since they are bachelors, Vijay Sethupathi enters a fake name, Karmega Kuzhali as his spouse in his application. Meanwhile, Yogi Babu clears the interview while Vijay Sethupathi gets rejected by the officials.
Frustrated by this, Vijay Sethupathi joins a drama troupe headed by Nassar where he gets another chance to go to London for a performance. While the team members are busy with the preliminary works, Pooja Devariya, a co-artist in the team inquires him about his wife. When he reveals the truth, Pooja asks him to delete the name or else he would face a lot of unnecessary trouble.
They then decide to approach a lawyer who suggests the idea of Vijay Sethupathi to find a girl who can act as his wife under the name Karmega Kuzhali so that they can get the divorce papers signed and then remove her name from his passport.
In this situation, Vijay comes to know about Ritika Singh, who bears the same name and works as a TV reporter. Soon, he requests her to play his wife for a divorce and the rest of the story narrates the aftermath.
Hero Vijay Sethupathi has excelled in his character with his casual acting. Proving his abilities once again, he makes the audience extremely delighted while performing as a person who is dumb. Irudhi Suttru heroine and National Award-winning actress Ritika Singh has given a performance equally efficient to that of the hero. Her cute expressions are impressive to watch. However, it is Yogi Babu who delivers a standout performance and leaves everyone in splits in the film's hilarious sequences. Apart from his comedic portions, the actor has performed well in the climax.
Composer K has put in lot of effort for perfection in the film's background score. His songs are quite enjoyable too with the film's moving narrative. Cinematographer Shanmugasundaram can be appreciated for the clarity and the beauty in the sequences.
Overall, Aandavan Kattalai proves to be a social awareness film and is a must watch for all audiences.
