Leading actors including the likes of Ajith, Arvind Swamy, Karthi, Suriya and Vikram will be seen donning khaki in an interesting lineup of films this year. iFlicks looks into the trend.
Talking about Singam which is one of the most successful franchises in Tamil cinema, Suriya says, “We never thought we will make a sequel for Singam, but then Singam 2 happened and went on to become a huge success. When we started discussing S3, it took eight months to write the script and present it as a fresh movie. In the first two parts, there were punch dialogues and chase sequences. In S3, we have ensured that there are no deja-vu scenes or dialogues, while also making sure to present an entertaining film.”
Later in the year, Tamil movie buffs are in for a treat when Vikram’s blockbuster Saamy’s sequel, Saamy2 hits the screens. “Hari and I have been discussing Saamy 2 for over a couple of years now. But when we finalised the project we made sure that the project should be bigger than the original and carry forward the legacy.”
And it’s not just the men, but also the industry’s leading ladies who are all set to rock the police avatar. While Dhansika plays a cop in her upcoming movie Rani, K’town’s reigning queen Nayanthara will don the khaki in Imaikka Nodigal. “The best part about the movie is I have performed quite a few stunts myself. The story is about a female cop on a rescue mission in Malaysia,” says Dhansika.
Apart from these films, Arvind Swamy will be playing a cop in Selva’s directorial in which he is paired with Ritika Singh. Actor Karthi will also be seen as a cop in a movie that is set to go on floors this month. It is also said that Gautham Menon who is planning to revive Dhruva Natchathiram with Vikram might see the actor playing a cop again, while Ajith is playing an investigative officer in AK57.
