Aishwarya Rai Bachchan became the first Indian actor to hoist the Indian flag at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) as a part of their celebration of 70th year of India’s Independence on Saturday.
Aishwarya was accompanied by daughter Aaradhya at the event. While Ash looked stunning clad in a white and light blue floor length anarkali dress, her darling daughter Aradhya was seen in a white ghagra choli.
Speaking at the event, Ash said, “Thank you so much Melbourne, thank you everyone for giving us such a moment of pride and happiness with so much love and warmth. Celebrating our 70th Independence Day will forever be such a beautiful memory for me and my dearest Aaradhya.”
Ash was also felicitated for her contribution to global cinema. She was awarded with the Westpac IFFM Excellence in Global Cinema award at an event on Friday. “I’m so humbled and filled with gratitude to be given this award. We as creative people always wish to do more and I’m far away from resting.
As an artiste, I have so much more to explore but it’s great to receive this honour. But above all I must thank the fans, who have loved me so immensely and it’s because of you we get to live our dream, our passion,” Aishwarya said after winning the award. Meanwhile, Konkona Sen Sharma’s Lipstick Under My Burkha was named the best film at the fest. The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne began on August 10 and will continue till August 22.
