We were the first to confirm that Jyotika will reprise Vidya Balan’s role in Tum hari Sulu Tamil remake. To be directed by Radha Mohan, Dhananjayan Govind’s Bofta Media Works will bankroll the project.
Jyotika said in a press release, “I am a big Vidya (Balan) fan. I like her voice and command over Hindi, which is rare in Bollywood today. I’ve watched every Vidya Balan's film, and Tumhari Sulu, in my opinion, is her most lovable work. I feel honoured to be stepping into her shoes. Kudos to the producers and to Suresh (Triveni) for making such a lively, honest, real and feel-good film.”
Earlier she had also told us that she liked the Hindi version as well. Talking about the film being remade, Vidya said, “As a Tamil ponnu (girl), I feel happy about our film being remade in my mother tongue. Tumhari Sulu is a special film for me and I wish Jyotika all the best in spreading the Sulu love.”
This will be her second-time collaboration with Radha Mohan, post Mozhi, which went on to become a blockbuster. Radha Mohan, who will direct the Tamil version, said, “I am excited to be directing an appreciated film like Tumhari Sulu, and with Jyotika, with whom we had a great association in Mozhi. I was impressed with the realistic presentation of Tumhari Sulu and hope to re-create the magic in Tamil with Jyotika.”
Talking to us, producer of the film Dhananjayan revealed an interesting information and said, “While production houses acquire the remake rights of the film before zeroing in on the actors, for this film, it was the other way round. We agreed to acquire the film, only if Jyotika decided to come on board. Also, when we were looking for a combination director, Radha Mohan came on board, who told us that Tumhari Sulu was a delightful watch. We are excited that the film is going to be reprised by a fine actor like Jyotika and directed by Radha Mohan.”
