The final day shoot of the talkie portions of 'Mr Chandramouli', was a fun-filled affair for all those involved. The cast and crew of the film talk to us about how the pre-climax scenes of the film were canned.
There was a huge buzz in a street in Raja Annamalaipuram and we could see caravans lined up outside a house. Veteran actor Karthik, dressed in a maroon shirt, comes out of it and people in the neighbourhood erupt in joy. He still carries the same enthusiasm and charisma he did in films like Mouna Ragam and Agni Natchathiram.
Director Thiru narrates him the scene as Karthik takes his position. Producer of Mr Chandramouli, G Dhananjayan says, “His charm hasn’t gone down a bit since the day he started his career. Today, we are shooting the patchwork from the film and we will have Gautham Karthik and Regina Cassandra too joining us shortly. According to the storyline, this is the house in which Karthik and Gautham reside.”
Within no time Karthik finishes his take and greets us with his effervescent smile. We start talking about his flamboyant screen presence in the 80s and 90s and he tell us, “Shooting for Mr Chandramouli has been amazing. Thiru has executed the script really well. Moreover, when I listened to the script of Chandramouli, it had the same impact that Mouna Raagam and Gokulathil Seethai had on me.”
He points out to Dhananjayan and says that he always took good care of him. We are joined by Gautham Karthik and Regina Cassandra. Gautham Karthik hugs his dad and says, “He is the battery pack of this team. He extends his enthusiasm and positivity to us. There is never a dull moment when he is around.”
Gautham also tells us about his work for the day and says, “I will be changing my costumes soon as we will be shooting some climax sequences. I have also shot for some pre-climax scenes today and will be wrapping up with the climax scene. As the talkie portions come to an end today, we will be taking off to Thailand soon for song shoots.” Karthik joins Gautham and says, “I can’t wait to join them in Thailand and that’s going to be exciting.”
Meanwhile, Thiru and Regina are busy shooting a cab sequence and Regina says, “I did some shopping for my costumes for this scene earlier today. We will be ending the day with my portions for which we will be shifting to another location. Mr Chandramouli is a brilliant film and to shoot with Karthik sir and Gautham will be memory to cherish.”
Karthik then gets into a vintage car and director Thiru says, “This car is one of the central characters in the story and the film revolves around it. You will know when you watch the film.” As they go for the take, Karthik finishes it off in yet another single take and comes out of the car and hugs his director.
“On the first day of the shoot, I was nervous to direct him. But look at him, he is the youngest person on the sets and makes everyone smile.” he says. Karthik returns the compliment and says, “As I said, Thiru has pulled it off well. Also, Regina is another amazing talent (Just then Regina comes in with a box of doughnuts for us). Had she been my contemporary, I would have acted in at least 20 films with her.”
Gautham tries to pull Regina’s leg and says, “20 films with her? But then yeah, she is busy and I don’t think I can get her dates.”
Regina then tells Gautham that he won’t be getting the doughnuts. Dhananjayan, then says, “All said and done, I couldn’t have asked for a better team. They are fantastic people and have cooperated in a very professional manner. Despite schedule breaks, we have completed the shoot in a little less than 40 days.”
