Actress Sunaina, who was last seen in Samuthirakani’s Thondan, is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film 'Kaali', directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi. The actress will also be seen playing the lead in a Tamil web series directed by Nandhini of 'Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru' fame.
Actress Sunaina, who was last seen in Samuthirakani’s Thondan, is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Kaali, directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi. Vijay Antony plays the lead. “Though my previous films, Thondan and Vanmam had me playing a village girl, my director Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi has given a totally different shade to my role in Kaali,” she said. “The way it was written by Kiruthiga is brilliant and I had fun shooting for it,” she added.
Talking about Vijay Antony, Sunaina said, “I was surprised to see his acting skills. I know him as a good musician as it was his Naaka Mukka song that gave Kaadhalil Vizhundhen a huge recognition in 2008. In fact, I was so amazed by his acting skills that I forgot the composer in him. When I was humming a song, he asked me if I’d like to record a song for him.”
When asked if she has crooned for a song in Kaali, she said, “No I haven’t. I shy away from the microphone, when someone asks me to sing. However, maybe in future, I might break the shell and record a song or two for Vijay Antony.”
The actress will also be seen playing the lead in a Tamil web series directed by Nandhini of Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru fame. “The web series cannot be restricted to a particular genre as it has all the elements. We have still a few more days of shoot left and will release in the middle of this year. This series would be a huge hit regardless of the star cast or the genre,” she said.
Sunaina, who has quite a few good films to her credit, said that she looked forward to exploring various aspects of cinema. “I always wanted to be an actor. I don’t to restrict myself to one genre of film or roles. I am a huge fan of OTT content and any good content on this platform would grab my attention. That is when I realised that web series too had a huge audience base in our country and was excited to sign this,” she said.
Sunaina, who of late, has worked with women directors like Nandhini, said, “They are as competitive and committed to the profession as their male counterparts. The only difference is, women directors take care of us like a mother does. They nurture us and make us feel safe and comfortable on the sets.”
There were rumours that the actress will also be playing a crucial role in Dhanush-Gautham Menon’s Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta. When asked if she is part of the much-anticipated project, she smiled and said, “Yes. I’m playing a pivotal role in the film and you will know the importance of the character when you watch the film. Moreover, Gautham Menon’s portrayal of his characters are unique. They may look complicated when you watch them on screen. But he makes the work so easy for us as things are well organised on the sets. I am yet to complete the shoot for the film.”
