Actress Raashi Khanna, who is yet to make her debut in Tamil and has as many as three films lined up for releases, is already a household name among Tamil audience. The actress recently visited the DTNext office and spoke about her career and roles in her upcoming films.
Dressed in a violet bell sleeve crop top and striped trousers, Raashi Khanna was mobbed by her fans as she entered our premises.
The actress settles down for a chat after acknowledging them with selfies and begins, “Chennai has become my second home like Hyderabad as I have been getting good offers from here. I feel happy about the projects I have signed in Tamil and no wonder I feel like shifting my base to this city.”
With hits like Bengal Tiger and Oxygen in Telugu, Raashi has already become a familiar name among the Tamil audience. The reason behind that she tells us is, “I am glad that people here know me even before my Tamil films have released. Thanks to the evolution of cinema. People in Chennai watch Telugu films and movie buffs in Hyderabad watch Tamil films. There is no question of language and cultural barrier nowadays with the existence of digital platforms.”
Raashi gets talking about her upcoming film Imaikkaa Nodigal that would hit the screens first, followed by Adanga Maru with Jayam Ravi and Shaitaan Ka Bachcha with Siddharth. “Apparently, Shaitaan Ka Bachcha should have been my first release.
The film has been in the making for two years now and was expected to release last year. However, I was simultaneously busy with Telugu projects and am happy with the way my career was headed in Tollywood.
Now, with Imaikka Nodigal and Adanga Maru, I feel like a newcomer.
However, with the kind of roles that I have taken up, I’m positive that they will be received well by the audience,” she explains.
Talking about Imaikkaa Nodigal, Raashi says, “At the time when Ajay narrated the story to me, Nayanthara wasn’t on board as they were looking for a male protagonist. When I listened to my role, I was happy about it. Later, I felt great when the cast became massive with Nayanthara and Anurag Kashyap joining the team.” Raashi also divulges more about her role and smiles as she says she plays a ‘Tamil model’. “I play a model, who is still rooted to her tradition and someone, who deals with her possessive boyfriend, played by Atharvaa. This is more of a girl-nextdoor character, who everybody will fall in love with,” the actress tells us.
She says that Adanga Maru will be completely in contrast to her role in Imaikkaa Nodigal. Raashi says that cinema is changing, and the audience have opened to what filmmakers give them. “The best part is that they have started to accept women-centric films and women playing rebels. Though it is a gamble taken by leading heroines like Nayanthara, it has paid off,” says the actress. On a concluding note, Raashi says that she has signed a couple of films apart from Vishal’s Ayogya for which she will begin the shoot soon and her roles in those films will be spoken about too. “An official announcement on these projects will be made soon,” she concludes.
