The duo last came together for Kai Kodukkum Kai, which was directed by Mahendran in 1984
The star cast of Karthik Subbaraj-Superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta seems to be getting stronger with each passing day. The film, which started in Dehradun in the second week of June had Rajinikanth, Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Simha, Sananth and Megha Akash in the team with over 700 unit members. Simran, Trisha and Nawazuddin Siddiqui were later added to the star cast. While the makers announced that Sasikumar had joined the shoot last week, ace director J Mahendran, who made an immense contribution to Rajinikanth’s superstardom in the 70s and 80s, has now joined the team in Varanasi. This marks their reunion, 34 years after Kai Kodukkum Kai that released in 1984. The duo is known for blockbusters like Mullum Malarum and Johnny.
A source from the film unit told us, “This is a two-month schedule and Mahendran has a crucial role to play. Nothing else can be divulged as most important scenes of the film are being canned now.” Produced by Sun Pictures, Anirudh Ravichander is scoring the music for Petta and the shoot of the film is likely to be wrapped up in November. Rumours are abuzz that the movie will be a January 2019 release.
