...and yet Bobby Simha is playing a dreaded gangster, Deva in Vella Raja. He also talks to us about portraying the LTTE founder and leader, Vellupillai Prabhakaran, in his upcoming biopic
Bobby Simha, who has over half a dozen films on hand that includes Superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta has now made his debut in Vella Raja, an Amazon Prime exclusive, which is a first-of-its kind in Tamil. Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, it also features Parvathy Nair and Gayathrie Shankar in lead roles. “As you could see in the trailer, I play a gangster, who deals with drugs. The story is set in Chennai and my character of Deva has different shades to it,” he begins. One look at the trailer, and we could reminisce Bobby as Assault Sethu in Jigarthanda, a character that won him accolades.
“Definitely not. To be honest, I made sure that I wouldn’t want to meet Assault Sethu ever again in my life post Jigarthanda. Deva’s character is completely different from Sethu and you will know that when you watch the episodes,” he says. Bobby, who will be next seen in Superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta, will play Velupillai Prabhakaran, the founder of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The posters and the announcement of the film have already created a huge stir.
“I’m playing a legend and it requires a tremendous homework from my side. The film will go on floors from March next year,” he opens up. The actor also says that he will undergo a physical makeover for this film. “I will be playing different phases of his life from teenager till his death. Hence, I need to physically transform myself in double-quick time,” he adds.
Talking about his upcoming projects, he says, “I have couple of films in Telugu. I will also be undergoing a makeover for one of them by growing long hair.”
