Tamil audience has always embraced female-centric content and are several films have gone on to become huge hits.
While all these films have either touched upon several social issues or horror, 90ML an upcoming female centric film directed by Anita Udeep that has Oviya and Masoom Shankar in lead roles, is a commercial entertainer. Talking about the film, Anita told DTNext, “Films are meant for entertainment purpose. When I started penning the script of 90ML, I made sure that it will not be a serious film. There are many woman-centric films that come with a social message and have already been stereotyped. So why make another one that will be preachy? Instead, I have made a film that will portray girls and women in a happy-go-lucky way.”
We ask her what exactly her definition of happy-go-lucky when it comes to a woman-centric entertainer, she said, “The female leads in my film do not hide behind a mask. You will not see the typical heroines, who try to impress her boyfriends or her in-laws to be. Today women love freedom and are becoming independent. They are different when they are at home and with their husbands or in-laws. The girls in the film in contrast are fun and even discuss things that are coined as ‘societal taboos’.”
Anita said that it was during the first season of Bigg Boss that she decided to rope in Oviya as the lead. “She fit the bill perfectly. In Bigg Boss she was being herself and was not fake. That’s when she became my obvious choice to play the lead. Apart from Oviya and Masoom there are another couple of girls who are key cast members. In the film they are all from different walks of life and live in the same apartment. How they break free and go all out during their getaway is what 90ML is all about,” she explained. A homemaker, entrepreneur, director, producer and a singer, Anita said that the film is expected to hit the screens in February. The film has its music composed by STR. “I had told Simbu about this idea and he liked it. That is when he came on board and songs we have released so far are already chartbusters. We both have crooned a number together as well,” she said with a smile.
