Atlee was also accused by Producer Kathiresan for plagiarising Mersal and said that it is similar to Moondru Mugam.
Even before Vijay 63 could hit the screens, an aspiring director, Shiva has accused director Atlee that the story of Vijay 63 is originally his idea and. A reliable tinseltown source told DTNext, “Shiva is an aspiring director, who had directed a short film based on women’s football. To develop it into a feature film he had approached a few leading production companies that we don’t want to disclose. The story has been leaked by one of the producers to Atlee, who has developed on the storyline for Vijay 63.” Later, Shiva approached the Writers’ Union and discussed with office bearers Manoj Kumar and Sai Ramani. We contacted one of the office bearers from Writers’ Union, who said, “We suggested that he reaches one of Atlee’s assistants. When they compared notes, the stories were strikingly similar and was conceded by Atlee’s team as well. However, we couldn’t take up the case because, Shiva has just joined Writers’ Union and a member has to at least complete a minimum of six months for us to take a complaint.” The issue has now been taken to Madras High Court by Shiva. Atlee was also accused by Producer Kathiresan for plagiarising Mersal and said that it is similar to Moondru Mugam. His film Theri was also similar to Vijayakanth’s Chathriyan and Raja Rani was also said to be similar to Mani Ratnam’s Mouna Raagam.
