We hear from reliable sources that after date clashes with Vijay 63 and Darbar for Nayanthara, Mani has roped in Anushka in the period film. Amitabh has also been confirmed to play Sundara Chozhar
The cast of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan has attracted humongous attention from cinephiles. We had recently reported that Nayanthara would play the role of an empress named Poonkuzhali.
On the latest development, a source close to the film told DTNext, “It is true that Nayanthara was part of the film. With films like Vijay 63 and Darbar on hand this year, she couldn’t allocate dates for this film. Hence, Anushka has replaced her.” The big news is that Amitabh has been confirmed for a pivotal role in the film, where Amitabh and Aishwarya Rai, who would play Nandini, will share the screen space. “Amitabh was rumoured to play Periya Pazhuvettairaiyar. But he will be playing Sundara Chozhar (dad to Vikram and Jayam Ravi) while Mohan Babu will play Pazhuvettairaiyar.” We also hear that all is not well within the camp. While Karthi, Vikram and Jayam Ravi will play Vanthiyathevan, Aditya Karikalan and Arulmozhi Varman respectively, it is Vanthiyathevan, who is the lead of the film as the entire story is narrated from his perspective. “Vikram and Jayam Ravi have also reached out to Mani Ratnam that they are keen on playing Vanthiyathevan. Mani will be taking a final call on the cast and crew before making an official announcement.” The film will have its music by AR Rahman and lyrics by Vairamuthu. Keerthy Suresh will reprise the role of Kundavai aka Ilaya Piraati. Produced by Lyca, Ponniyin Selvan is all set to go on floors in September.
