Nivin Pauly's straight Tamil film is a classic neo noir action crime thriller, titled 'Richie'. A remake of 2014 Kannada film 'Ulidavaru Kandanthe'. Helmed in Tamil by debutant Gautham Ramachandran, the film is all set to hit the screens on December 8, after Passing the censorship test with a "U/A" certificate.
Though Malayalam star Nivin Pauly, made his entry into Tamil Industry with his bilingual film Neram, he stole Kollywood audiences' hearts with his cult block buster hit film Premam. Post that, his fans have been waiting for his much anticipated straight Tamil flick Richie.
Previously, titled as 'Santa Maria', then 'Avargal' and finally fixing upon Richie, the film is being helmed by debutant Gautham Ramachandran, who was a former assistant director of ace filmmaker Mysskin. He has apparently met Nivin Pauly almost five years ago, and ever since then, the duo have been planning on making a film together.
This classic neo noir action crime thriller, is a remake of 2014 Kannada film Ulidavaru Kandanthe: a story which revolves around a murder that has been narrated by different point of views. Though Richie has the same plot, the makers of the film has stated that the script has been tweaked to cater the taste of the Tamil audience.
As it was dream of Nivin's to act in Kollywood they decided to remake this story as only a Tamil film and not as a bilingual. Bankrolled by Cast N' Crew, Richie also stars Natarajan Subramaniam or Natty of Sadhuranga Vettai 2 fame, Shraddha Srinath of Vikram Vedha fame, Lakshmi Priyaa and Prakash Raj, in pivotal roles among others.
Ajaneesh Loknath has scored the music, while Pandi Kumar cranking the camera and Athul Vijay providing the cuts. Passing out with a U/A certificate from the censorship test. Richie was supposed to hit the screens on December 1, but due to last minute post production works the film was pushed to release a week later; December 8.
