‘Kalai Vendan’ revolves around the life of a trainer who is well-versed in a martial arts form called, ‘Vovinam’.
Hero Ajay is a Vovinam trainer at ‘Thalaivasal’ Vijay’s martial arts school. He teaches Aarthi and ‘Kadhal’ Sukumar at the school.
One day, Aarthi’s friend Sanam Shetty visits the school to meet Aarthi. The heroine falls in love with Ajay at the first sight and eventually Ajay starts loving Sanam Shetty.
Sanam’s mother Nalini learns about her daughter’s love affair and warns her to stay away from Ajay. Sanam keeps roaming around with Ajay avoiding her mother’s warning.
Few days later, Nalini gets a message saying that Sanam Shetty is dead at the sea shore. This shocks Nalini and Ajay and the reason behind her death is unknown.
Meanwhile, Ajay gets a message that Sanam Shetty is still alive and Kalabavan Mani has confined her in a secluded place. Ajay goes in search of Sanam Shetty and what happens next has been revealed in the rest of the screenplay.
Hero Ajay has lived up to the expectations of the audience. The youngster has put in lots of efforts to do justice to his role and has excelled in action sequences.
Actress Sanam Shetty has done her portions well and has got a chance to emote perfectly. Kalabavan Mani has played a full- fledged villain role after a long time.
Other actors like Aarthi, Kadhal Sukumar, Manobala, TP Gajendran have exhibited realistic performances.
Director RK Parasuram has made efforts to make a complete entertainer with a story that focusses on self-defense martial arts.
Songs are good in Srikanth Deva’s music and Karthik could have concentrated more on the cinematography.
