The breathtaking disaster drama is based on the real events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster and focusses on the survival attempts of two expedition groups called Adventure Consultants and Mountain Madness.
In May 1996, both the teams lead by Scott Fischer (Gyllenhaal) and the other by Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) meet at base camp and prepare to climb Mount Everest. Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) is one of three guides for Adventure Consultants, whose eight clients include Beck Weathers (Josh Brolin), who had been climbing for ten years, Doug Hansen (John Hawkes), who was climbing to prove an ordinary man
can pursue an extraordinary dream, and Yasuko Namba (Naoko Mori), who had previously climbed six of the Seven Summits and was attempting to become the oldest woman to climb Everest. Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal) was the guide for Mountain Madness.
Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) has left behind his pregnant wife Jen (Keira Knightley) and assures her that he will be back in time for the birth.
The crews start progressing towards their goal and though the climate is not favorable, the climbers try hard to accomplish their aim.
They encounter delays while mounting and after few hindrances the climbers reach the top of Everest one by one. Rob makes sure he helps his clients to try their best and stands beside them to lend a helping hand while they struggle to uphill.
Climate starts to worsen and trouble starts when the crews are on their way back to the base camp. The rest of the movie reveals whether the mountaineers managed to turn back safe after their successful venture.
