The rich dad of the heroine is against her relationship with the hero and they seek the help of their friend to elope and get married. All clichéd aspects of the movie , Mayyam ends with that.
The night before the wedding, Kumaran (hero) , Hasim (friend) and Jai Guhani (a modelling student) end up visiting a secluded ATM and witness Naveen Sanjay mercilessly murder the security gaurd.
Their life now hangs on the fact that, to avoid being captured by the CCTV camera Naveen cannot come in and they cannot step out. Robot Shankar helps them from the adjacent room. Naveen also ends up killing a cop who comes to the rescue.
Why did the murders take place ? Did the friends come out safe ? Who is Naveen? Those are the questions the movie tries to answer.
All actors have done a good job in emoting desperation and fear. Naveen steals the show as the gruesome murderer and the witty Robot Shankar reminds us that he is the man to look out for in the foreseeable future.
The movie is inspired from the 2012 Hollywood flick, ATM and traces of it are more than visible. Sridhar's screenplay is spun around ATM robbery, general lack of safety and Aditya Bhaskaran has complimented it with his excellent direction.
The movie raises fundamental questions about the location of our ATMs in secluded places, staffing of security with people well past their prime etc. Though the movie is not complete and has its flaws , the very fact that it was made by students who are yet to finish their graduation is extremely commendable.
Kaasib Rafique's songs are a great solace and Pirna Hussain's cinematography makes the dark glitter.
