Aridharam is a suspense thriller directed by Alexander. Starring Thamizh and Sonia in the lead roles, the film is about a youngster and his lady love who try to save the life of an old lady.
Thamizh is brought up by his grandmother after he loses his parents at a very young age. After the demise of his grand mother, he becomes friendly with a rag picker boy and starts doing the same for his living too. One day the duo murder a goon who tries to snatch their money. Fearing police, they escape to Chennai and continue their work in Chennai as well. That's when Thamizh happens to meet Sonia who lives in the same area and does the same paper picking work. Thamizh falls for Sonia at the very first sight and they both start loving each other. An elderly lady who lives in the neighborhood supports the couple and wishes to unite them in wedlock.
Meanwhile a relative of the old lady plans to murder her after transferring her assets to his name. In order to help her, the lovers keep the old lady with them in a hide-out. What then happens to the couple's lives forms the crux of the story. To know more, watch the film on the silverscreen.
Hero Thamizh fits well to the character. With that said, the actor's less expressive dialogue delivery style is a big spoiler. Debutante Sonia's performance is also not up to the mark. However, the powerful performance of the old lady is the major highlight of the film. Director Alexander's attempt to film the lifestyle of slum dwellers is laudable. But his efforts are in vain because of the poor performance of the cast and the lagging screenplay. Music and background score by Mohammad Dawood is also not up to the mark.
