Set in the backdrop of village, the film is written and directed by Usha Krishnan. Kalaiyarasan, Kaali Venkat, debutants Shalin and Vaishali are playing the lead roles. PG Muthiah's cinemtography is good. He has shown the lush greenery and landscape of the village in a beautiful way. Justin Prabhakaran's music is refreshing. BGM goes well with the story line.
Kalaiyarasan and Kaali Venkat are brothers and they are shown growing up together in the opening scene. They are the kind of brothers who will keep fighting all the time. But when someone oversees, they act like they are united. Their father who owns a soda company starts seeking a bride for Kaali venkat, but they dont find anyone suitable for him.
Then, there is Vaishali's family who take a house for rent next to his house. Both the brothers are attracted to this girl. Kaali Venkat gets an opportunity to study in a college. The younger brother feels that his brother Kalaiyarasan will be a hindrance. So, he is sending him off to college.
Kalaiyarasan meets a heroine Shalin Zoya who happens to study with him in college. And they eventually fall in love. Their chemistry has worked well for the film. After finishing his studies, he returns to his native. He notices that Kalaiyarasan has still not confessed his feelings for Vaishali. Seeing this, Kaliayarasan starts influencing his brother.
Due to this, there is a fight between the two families. So, Vaishali leaves the village. Whether they will be able to find out where Vaishali is and what happened to Kalaiyarasan's college sweetheart Shalin Joya forms the crux of Raja Mandhiri.
Both the brothers are given a good screen timing. And they have done justice to their roles. Kalaiyarasan has proved that he will be able to act any role given to him. Vaishali looks like a typical village girl in the film and has given an endearing performance. Especially in the climax scene, her role becomes to be the most memorable one.
Their romantic scenes are a major boost to the film. The film has a mix of comedy, emotions and bromance. The way she has directed the film is too good as one moment you will be crying and the next moment you would be laughing. There are roller coaster of emotions that one would go through. And this is how, the director wants to entertain the audience and she has got it right.
Though Shalin has acted in some movies, this is her first film in Tamil. She has understood her character and has enacted in a good way. The film proves to be a good family entertainer. One would simply wish that there was a brother bonding like that in their lives too. We need to appreciate the director for her good work as she has dealt with a simple script in an efficient way.
In an overall, Raja Mandhiri should be crowned.
