Niranjan travels to a far off village to meet an old friend in hopes of helping his sister study medical. While in the village, he is introduced to Gayathri, who runs an ashram in the village. Kaaka, a rich man wants to take over the ashram and gives constant hardships to Gayathri as well as the people in the ashram. She confides her troubles with Niranjan, who doesn't pay serious heed or attention. As a result, she is too miffed with him.
The next day, Kaaka sends his henchmen to threaten when Niranjan thrashes them all left and right. He then heads to Kaaka's house, where the rich man's brother calls up Niranjan and talks to him as if they knew each other already. Later, Niranjan joins Kaaka which completely irks Gayathri. He works under Kaaka assuring him that he will get him the ashram from Gayathri. The rest of the plot of Neethan Raja revolves around the revelations as to why Niranjan took the decision to work for Kaaka, what reason he had to go the village and whether he is able to help his sister study in a medical college.
Apart from acting as the film's hero, Niranjan has also done direction. Although he has the physique of a well built man, he needs to emote better to fit in the hero category. The songs that praise him all around only lead to irritation throughout. In addition, there are scenes that are incoherent and only leave us with much confusion. Gayathri is a delight to our sore eyes in this film. Leema, who plays Nirnajan's sister also comes in only few scenes and plays her part well. The same can be said about Ravichand, who plays Niranjan's friend. The person who has played Kaaka has terrified us with his villainy and the same can be said about the person who plays his elder brother. Dashi's music is average and the background score is no different. Dinesh's cinematography skills come to the fore as he has done a commendable job.
In short, Neethan Raja is tied with too many knots.
