Sridevi is working as a teacher in a school in Delhi. She meets Adnan Siddiqui and they enter wedlock. This is Adnan's second marriage and he already has a daughter Sajal Ali. Sridevi too has a daughter and also sees Sajal Ali like her own child. However, Sajal denounces her new relationship with Sridevi and takes to calling her step-mother as "Madam". As days pass, Sajal is invited to a party her friend is hosting. Adnan too is out of town regarding some work at this time and Sajal does not come back home as the clock strikes past bedtime, So, Sridevi decides to look for Sajal by heading to the party location. It is revealed that Sajal was kidnapped and raped by some of the boys participating in the party.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui comes in as an investigating police officer and with determination arrests all those involved and produces them in court. Using the loops in the justice system, the accused get released from the case. Sajal is heartbroken that the sinners have been released and are allowed to walk free. Looking at Sajal's condition, Sridevi decides to seek revenge on all those who brought such pain and agony into her step-daughter's life. She joins hands with Akshaye Khanna and the rest of the plot revolves around how the two get revenge against the accused, what kind of punishment they hand out and whether Sajal accepts Sridevi as her mother.
Sridevi has lived her role in Mom. Be it as a teacher, mother or a wife, the iconic actress has delivered a thunderous performance yet again in this revenge thriller. Popular Paksitani actor Adnan Siddiqui has played his role in a satisfying manner and convinces he's a talent to watch out for. Sajal Ali also hailing from Pakistan carries her role on her shoulders and has done it justice. Nawazuddin Siddiqui coming in as a duty-bound police officer convinces us he can be gritty in his role once again after his performances in his previous films. Although Akshaye Khanna's role is restricted to only a few scenes, but his part is crucial to the overall proceedings of the film.
It can be said that Mom has been made keeping in mind the Nirbhaya incident in Delhi that rocked the entire nation few years back. The film conveys the message that despite living in the modern age, women are being subjected to inhumane acts and young girls need to be more attentive in things happening around them. Director Ravi Udyawar has attempted to depict the trauma families go through when such a cruel act is committed against one in their family. Despite the noble effort, we get the feel of having watched a documentary film. Such is the pace of the film. A. R. Rahman has scored the music for the film keeping in mind the narrative and has done so in an amicable manner. His background score is on point and he has done a commendable job yet again. Anay Goswami's cinematography skills come to the fore and he has shot the film in a beautiful manner.
In short, Mom is good patient watch.
