A poster with these words: "When is Julie going to die? Today or Tomorrow?" will be seen on all the public walls of Coimbatore. This creates a panic within some people, and others take this as a publicity or a promotional strategy. When enquired by police - media, political parties and other companies denied doing something like that for advertisement purposes. This irks the city commissioner, Napoleon, who urges his co-worker and confidante, Sarathkumar to take this issue seriously and to find out the person and reason behind this issue.
Sarathkumar is an assistant commisioner, who lives with his deceased brother's three kids. In the mean time, the elder daughter's engagement ceremony will be happening at his place before he is summoned by Napolean. He accepts this case and starts to probe around.
The story kicks in when Sarathkumar receives an unanimous call, stating that Mr X will kill his three kids. He initially panics and then comes to conclusion that, the poster and this threatening call is somehow connected. The rest of the story revolves Sarathkumar and his one day journey of finding out - who's Julie? who's Mr X? and what's the connection between them and his family.
Sarathkumar has pulled of his character like a pro, while both the veteran actor Napolean and Suhasini Mani Ratnam has delivered a convincing performance. Debutant director JPR, has done a pretty great job in the directorial department. He has attempted to make a psychological thriller, with all the necessary elements such as series of twists and turns, that can be expected in such a movie. The screenplay is interesting and engaging, but at times it is lagging and as he has tired to make it as intense as it possibly can get, the plot just ends up getting the audience really confused until the climax.
Jakes Bejoy of Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru fame has handled the music department and his scores justify the movie's genre. Vijay Deepak cranks the camera and has made the movie very gloomy, yet interesting, while Gopi Krishna's cuts are on point.
In short, Chennaiyil Oru Naal 2, is thrilling.
