Udhayanidhi Stalin is an ambitious guy, but is in a search of a new job as he suddenly gets fired. His mother, Raadhika is a supportive and a hardworking bus conductor back at their home town Thiruvanamaalai. Udhayanidhi, is already in a relationship with Manjima Mohan, but faces opposition when her brother, RK Suresh, a police commissioner, rudely objects their love. Hence the couple decides to get married at the register office as a safer option.
Meanwhile, Daniel Balaji, is a ruthless terrorist who breaks out of the prison, and is heading towards Chennai to plant a bomb. Udhayanidhi offers Balaji to hitchhike on his bike, and gets noted by the police who are trying to hunt the terrorist down. The same thing happens to Soori, in another day. RK Suresh, takes this to his advantage and immediately arrests them both. The rest of the plot revolves around how Udhayanidhi Stalin and Soori escape the clutches of the police and prove themselves innocent?
Udhayanidhi Stalin has pulled off the character decently, and once again lives up to his name as a commercial hero. His commitment towards acting seems to be increased, and especially his dancing has improved a lot as he effortlessly shows off few impressive steps. Likewise, Manjima Mohan also has delivered an amazing performance. One of the most under-rated actor, Daniel Balaji plays the baddie, and has yet again proved his talent at acting. RK Suresh and Raadhika have also done justice in playing their parts neatly.
Gaurav Narayanan has attempted to make an action thriller, and has done a pretty decent job in the directorial department, even though many loose ends are evident. The screenplay was supposed to be racy and packed, but has failed to provide that in the first half of the story as it is a bit slow, still Gaurav manages to grab the attention of the audience with the second half. Richard Nathan cranks the camera and has shot the movie well, with D Imman's background scores and songs justifying the movie's genre.
In short, Ippadai Vellum, is a good watch.
