The movie revolves around a pair of identical twins, who are named as Annadurai and Thambidurai, both played by Vijay Antony. The former is an alcoholic, with temper issues but is a good person by heart and is struggling to come to terms with his girl friend's death. The latter is a physical education trainer who is calm, serene and is already committed to Diana Champika.
Their family is well known and really respected in the society, in this situation everyone keeps complaining and embarrassing Annadurai's behaviour. After a point he gets insulted way too much, that he decides to turn leave all the habits, and get settled in life. He calls up his mother, expresses his decision to her and says that he will drink for the last time.
The following morning he wakes up in prison sober and gets to know that, he had accidentally killed a person at the bar as a drunken mistake. After realising the depth of crime he had committed, he accepts his fate and serves in prison for 7 years.
Once his term ends, he encounters Thambidurai in a totally different avatar. The once calm and serene brother has morphed into a rowdy, publicly chasing after a guy with a knife to kill him. The rest of the plot revolves around why Thambidurai has changed like that, and what happens to Annadurai's life after his time he served at the prison.
This is the first time Vijay Antony has performed in dual roles, and has pulled both of his character really well. The transformation between both the roles has been emoted in the subtle yet in a perfect way. Still Vijay has to work on his romance skills as it looked like he was forced to act like that. Kaali Venkat's character adds humour to the film, which works in parts. Jewel Mary and Diana Champika have nothing more to perform other than being the hero's love interests. Especially the former has very little screen space to express her talent.
Debutant G Srinivasan, has attempted to make an action drama film, filled with all the necessary elements to transform a serious story into a commercial one. Though the screenplay is interesting, with a plotline which was hard to decipher, it was confusing as lot of characters were included. Over all Srinivasan has done a decent job in the directorial department.
Vijay Antony, the film's protagonist has handled both music and editing departments. Compared to his songs, as a music composer he has scored his way with nailing the BGM, as it was in sync with the movie's genre. Likewise, this marks has his debut as an editor, and his cuts are sharp and decent.
In short, Annadurai, is watchable.
