Prabhudeva leads a poor life with simple principals, likes and dislikes. He runs his family as cab driver. In this situation he helps a dying Prakash Raj and saves his life by admitting him into the hospital at the right moment and also paying for his medical bills. A now consious Prakash Raj then tries to reach out to Prabhudeva to express his gratitude for saving his life.
By then Prabhudeva gets to know that Bhumika Chawla - his past lover during his college times - is the wife of Prakash Raj. From then onwards Prabhudeva avoids them and their attempts at reaching out to him. After a series of events Bhumika Chawla gets to know that Prabhudeva was the one who has saved her husband's life and also the kind of poverty stricken life he leads. Out of compassion she and Prakash Raj try to give him some money, but he adamently refuses to accept it.
As Bhumika still loves Prabhudeva, she goes to his house and gives the money to his wife. Prabhudeva gets furious and returns the amount stating that he helped a dying man to save his life out of humanity and he didn't expect anything else. Prakash Raj gets impressed by his honesty and offers him a job at the company he (Prakash Raj) runs. Under heavy persuasion Prabhudeva hesitantly accepts the job.
However this creates various opportunity for Prabhudeva and Bhumika Chawla to run into each other frequently. This leads to emotional imbalance between them both as they are still in love with each other. The rest of the plot revolves around how they handle the situation, and what caused Prabhudeva and Bhumika's releationship to wither away intially.
Production for Kalavaadiya Pozhuthugal began around 2009, but due to various problems the film was delayed for seven years. Thangar Bachan has both directed and cranked the camera. On the former's front, he had done a good job at the directorial department, and has attempted to show the anguish and sufferings between seperated lovers. He would have succeeded in it if he had released the movie at the right time. As the audience tastes has been drastically evolved, it might be difficult for certain section of the viewers to appreciate the movie. Also, he falters with the screenplay as it is dragging and depressing in parts. Comparitvely, Thangar Bachan's cinematography skills are much better.
Prabhudeva has pulled of his character really well, and his casual down to earth look is a major advantage for his role. Bhumika Chawla travels through out the movie and she also delivers a decent performance. Like wise, Prakash Raj plays a pivotal role and has done a good job pulling of his character as well. Bharathwaj has taken care of the music department and his background scores are much better than his songs which are too old school for today's taste.
In short, Kalavaadiya Pozhuthugal, is watchable.
